Located in the rural area of Pampanga Province, imagenes de Colores De Pelos is a small fishing village which attracts a large number of anglers from the surrounding areas. This small town lies on the bank of a lake in the province and hence has access to fresh water as well as salt water. This idyllic setting makes it an ideal destination for summer vacations especially for those who wish to spend a few days away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Located in the rural area, this quaint fishing village has a single fish processing plant which processes around thirty tonnes of fish daily. The lake at Imagenes de Colores serves as its fish breeding ground as it is also home to many species of birds as well as aquatic animals. The large volume of fish processing plants provides an excellent source of income to the fishermen who also get to enjoy a diverse variety of fresh fish products. During the peak season, the fishing villages also witness a huge influx of tourists who enjoy seeing the fish in the fresh water.
The main farm facility at the centre of imagenes de Colores de Pelos is situated in a modern warehouse structure which overlooks the shallow waters of the lake. There are a total of nine small outbuildings which house the fish processing plant. These structures are constructed from cement and have a very high standard of hygiene. The farm workers are required to wear full protective clothing including long sleeved shirts, rubber gloves, hard hats and thick glasses for eye protection. The entire farming workforce is required to wear white shirts with long pants when entering the area. They are also expected to wash their hands before entering the processing factory.
Fresh water is treated using a biological filter system and then the effluent is stored within the catchment area. This is then pumped out into the lake for further treatment. The primary filtration unit is fitted right on the water bridge to the lake. All the raw materials, whether it is fish or effluent, is then brought to the main farm facility from where the processed product is manufactured. The processing units are constructed in an extremely clean environment to ensure that no disease is released into the public or the lake itself.
Although there are some limitations when it comes to the amount of fish which can be caught in a single day, the lake is teeming with various species of both freshwater and saltwater fish. The local fishermen are well aware of the fact that no single fish can sustain itself in the limited space that is available in Lake imagenes de Colores. The water levels of the lake fluctuates constantly due to seasonal rise and fall. It is dependent on rainfall as well as the availability of snow for the farms to feed the livestock. Due to this, farming is suspended during the winter months and the fish population rapidly increases in the spring as the water levels start to recede.
There are a number of local and foreign visitors who use the lake on a regular basis. The fish and marine life thrive in such a gentle, inviting environment, providing the perfect abode for a wide range of marine life including perch, smallmouth bass, pickerel, trout, salmon, and catfish. During the summer months, there is a lot of commercial fishing available, but during the winter months, fishing is suspended until the water level stabilizes again.
